April 7, 2008 - Balcones Toastmasters - meeting notes
Dan Naden was our Toastmaster for the day and chose, "reading" as his theme. Dan brought his father, Bob, as a guest. Good to meet you Bob. Do come back to visit us soon.
Our compliments to Glenn Neilsen for filling the slot of "one minuet Toastmaster" so well. Glenn's thoughts were cogent and will help us all to become better TM's.
Jon Beall's Table Topics followed Dan's lead by asking questions about our reading. Gordon, Steve L., (almost a guest...welcome home Steve.) Harry, and some one that slips my mind at the moment (note from editor... that would be Hollis who took the Best Table Topic ribbon), arose to the challenge and discussed our thoughts on reading. If one would look into Jon's mind, one would find a flock of words strung into sentences, forming paragraphs, becoming chapters, when bound together arrive on the shelves of stores as books. Jon has read them all.
- We enjoyed Vlad's speech on Google. He explained how all the creepy crawlers work to bring us all the news fit to print and more. I need one more serving on my plate to fully understand that mystery.
- John McMillan brought us "Stand Up Comedy on Restaurant Row." John has a personal view of the life and love in the restaurant world. John is improving, and we gave him the white ribbon for the "Most Improved." Keep up the good work John, we are all pulling for you.
- Jim Comer's speech entitled, "Yes You Can," encouraged us to invite friends, family, co-workers, and casual folk on the street to visit Balcones Toastmasters. Better lives began at Balcones and will in time cover the earth. Jim won "Best Speaker," and carried home the "Big Blue" for his efforts.
Evaluators Mary, Anne, John A., and Jerry were kind and helpful. John A. won the coveted prize of the "Best Evaluator" green ribbon for his observation of John Mc.'s speech. Mz. Priscilla you make a great "Chief Evaluator." Thanks for your "Job Well Done."
