June 16, 2008 Minutes
From Austin Toastmasters (Balcones, Club #3407)
- John McMillan was Monday’s Toastmaster and he handled the task well. All aspects of the meeting moved at a pleasing clip.
- Scott suggested, in the One Minute slot that we should act confident. However that is not a license to become cocky.
Steve G. was Table Topics Master.
- He asked Steve L. to Speak to the President about gasoline prices.
- He then sent Priscilla to speak to the CEO’s about the same problem.
- Then our new member Steven Finos was asked to speak to the nation on National TV. We sure hope this will do some good at the pump.
Fred Maynard, gave his “Ice Breaker” - “How Did I Get Here?” Fred came by way of Kentucky, the Navy, sales, and Motorola. Fred said, “It’s the Journey, not the route.”
Mary, our own Presumptive, President, gave a most unusual speech where your evaluator assigns on the spot a subject. Harry chose “How do You Stay Happy?” Mary said she arises each morning with an “Attitude of Gratitude.” Mary uses many other methods to stay happy: white doves, hanging out clothes, cooking, and books on tape. It sure seems to work well on Mary.
Jonathan, our President, talked about holding hands in a most humorous style. From the streets of Bangladesh to the movie house of our hometown. Careful along the way or you may get bitten.
Glenn, the general evaluator, used a cadre of volunteers to complete his task.
- Scott hammered, kindly, the table topics participants.
- Anne made suggestions for Fred with finesse.
- Harry evaluated “Smiling Mary.”
- Antoinette had fun with Jonathan’s “Holding Hands.”
A big welcome to our newest member, Steven Finos. We will all be waiting, eagerly, to hear his “Ice Breaker.”
Winners were:
- Topics-Steven & Priscilla
- Speaker- Jonathan & Mary
- Evaluator- Antoinette
- Most improved - Fred Maynard
