Balcones Toastmasters - Contest Notes - 10 March 2008
Anne Child designed, recruited, organized, and executed a most successful Contest this Monday. A round of applause for Anne please. Our compliments to you Mrs. Anne for a difficult job well done, as well as a tip of the hat to your helpers. A big “ Thank You,” for all the “Imported” help also. Where did all those Guys and Gals come from?
Sonny brought a most delightful speech of his suggestions of how to treat one’s spouse. His title was “A Doggone Marriage.” We found Sonny’s speech humorous and entertaining as well as instructive. Sonny delivered his speech with verve and professionalism. Sonny, you are an inspiration to us all.
“Hard to Keep a Good Hand Down,” is the title of Steve’s entertaining speech. Steve discussed many facets of the way we use our hands in speaking. One thing I learned from Steve’s speech was to keep my hands and my mouth shut while listening to instructions from my wife. You guys keep it up and we may become civilized husbands.
You know, I think Dan really “Tried to Be a Boy Scout.” Thanks Dan for sharing a part of your life experiences with us. I know if I need a fire built to whom to get help from. However, paddling a canoe down the river is another matter. Dan’s expertise in speaking won him the “Third Place” ribbon.
Antoinette has learned at a tender age that “The Grass is Always Greener.” Some of us take much longer to discover, as Antoinette has, that the grass is pretty green ‘right here.’ Thanks for a fun speech that will be long remembered. Antoinette earned, for her astute delivery of a well-prepared speech, "Second Place Ribbon"
Jim’s tale of taking his father to the air show was a poignant, moving story. Jim’s speech, “Honor Thy Father,” was well done and included all the tenants of excellent speech making. Jim is a great model for us all to emulate on our road to better speaking. Jim won “First Place” in our Speech Contest. Jim will advance to the next level of competition, and we will all support him in his climb. Job well done, Jim.
