Balcones Toastmasters March 17, 2008 Minutes
Steve Levering, TM of the day, introduced Table Topics by Karen Bondy. Camping out was the subject, and Mike Prentice, Glen, Jerry, and HB handled the task well.
Priscilla Oehiert brought an entertaining speech entitled “While Dining Only.” Priscilla had her car towed from a restaurant parking lot. Our granddaughter had a similar experience recently. With a rather stiff penalty we may all learn to read the posted signs, “While Dining Only.” That policy cannot be good for the restaurants.
Peter Ryon brought an informational speech. Peter read from the information book of TI International, which discussed the rolls of the members in a TM meeting. It is good information and we need to understand its merits. Peter is a returning Balcones TM member, and we welcome him hearty.
Vinh Nguyen is a new Balcones member. His second speech, entitled, “Getting To The Point,” illuminated the use of our English language, and the power words have. Vinh’s motivational speech was given with all the tenants of good speaking. He quoted famous men of history; Churchill, and Lincoln, as well as not so famous that seemed to abuse our language. Vinh spoke with no notes, a feat I have yet to master. For his efforts Vinh was awarded the “First Place” blue ribbon. We will all be waiting for your next speech.
Steve Gonzales and his team, Jim, Gordon, Jon, and Mary, gave good evaluations.
Gordon won the “Best” ribbon.
Steve Leveling ended the meeting with a presentation of “Casey at Bat” in a most rousing manner. I could hear the shouting crowd, smell the popcorn, feel the tension in the stands, and understand the disappointment of all Mudville as Casey split the air with his famous strikeout. Job well done Steve.
Next weeks speakers are: Antoinette, Amanda, and Amy, three of our four "A's." We will look forward to their offerings.
