Balcones Toastmasters - Monday’s Notes - 24 March 2008

The Fun World of Table Topics

Jim Comer, Steve Gonzales, and Gordon Baker tied for “First Place” in Table Topics. Mary Buker brought question about planting a garden. All participants responded to the question in as many ways.

Speeches

  • Peter Ryon brought an unusual “three part speech” on “Salesmanship.” Peter led us through the maze of “How to close a sale,” with the help of Jerry. I thought they did an admirable job of explaining the “sales” world.
  • Amy Always discussed the world of games, with a speech entitled “Game of Life.” We were surprised with the scope of games in our lives, and the long history of games. Amy said perhaps ‘games’ might improve some of our work habits.
  • Antoinette just can’t eat alone. However with her title “Me, Myself, and I,” she has learned she will never be alone: eating, speaking or strolling through the park. A most interesting peek into our inter minds. Antoinette won the “First Place” ribbon with her presentation.

Evaluations

  • Vinh won best Evaluation with his observation of Peter’s three-part speech on “Salesmanship”. Vinh was tactful, with plenty compliments and suggestions for improvements.
  • Jerry evaluated Table Topics, which is always a handful.
  • Sonny evaluated Antoinette.
  • John McMilian did Amy. John is trying hard to climb the ladder of becoming a better TM and is improving. We are all pulling for you John.

After Hours

You are cordially invited to meet with several of us at Rudy’s Barbeque after the Monday meeting for coffee and tacos. Some pretty interesting topics come up and are thrashed out in a most congenial way. No ribbons are provided, but it is a fun, safe format for a meeting of the minds of great Toastmasters.
